WELCOME TO THE ART
GALLERY OF BURLINGTON

At the Art Gallery of Burlington, we stand as a dynamic cultural beacon, passionately dedicated to bringing contemporary art and craft to life in ways that resonate deeply. We believe in the transformative power of art, fostering connections that inspire us to cultivate meaningful relationships and a richer understanding of ourselves and the world around us. We honour the water protectors and land stewards of the Indigenous peoples whose unwavering care has nurtured the Treaty Lands and Territory where we create, learn, play, and innovate.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We honour the sacred land we have operated on for nearly 50 years. Steeped in the traditions of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Métis, it carries the weight of countless stories, teachings, and cultural practices that have thrived across generations. Our commitment goes beyond acknowledgment; we embrace the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, promoting peaceful coexistence and respect for the Earth among the Iroquois Confederacy, Ojibway, and allied Nations.

We recognize that this land belongs to the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and express gratitude for their stewardship. At the Art Gallery of Burlington, we foster an inclusive environment for community engagement, reflecting the values of harmony upheld by First Nations. As custodians of contemporary Canadian ceramics, we recognize the connection between our art and Indigenous traditions, celebrating the clay that embodies the land’s essence and our shared responsibility to honour our bond with nature.
