Understanding how kiln firings work is a valuable tool on your journey to becoming an accomplished potter. This introduction to the basics of operating a digital electric kiln will cover kiln safety, studio safety, kiln loading and maintenance. Participants will gain hands-on experience loading a kiln under supervision and learn how to maintain kiln shelves. Instructional time will include discussion of how kiln firing settings affect your pottery and opportunities to ask questions while providing space to improve one’s understanding of ceramics process and practice.
Completion of this course is a prerequisite for Studio Access Members who wish to book individual kiln firings using AGB electric kilns. Workshop participants should have some experience in pottery production and will be required to bring 3-4 completed pieces that have been glazed in readiness for firing.
