Wheel Throwing Basics: Bowl and Mug

Learn the basics of wheel throwing with this four-week class that will take you through all the stages of creating and finishing mug and bowl shapes. After learning how to throw a basic cylinder on the wheel, students will create their own pieces in their desired style and learn how to trim and finish their creations by using basic decorative techniques in preparation for glazing and final firing. This short course offers a gentle introduction to pottery for beginners and those who wish to refine their skills with instructor guidance.

About the instructor

Nesli Pakkal has been a passionate potter and a member of the Art Gallery of Burlington and the Burlington Potters Guild since 2017. Her primary focus is wheel work. She creates a wide range of both contemporary and traditional pieces including a line of Ottoman/Turkish designs that date back to the 15th century. She continues to refine her skills through the Mohawk College Ceramics program, and by taking advanced classes from master potter Donn Zver. Nesli’s work has been on exhibit at AGB. She takes part in seasonal sales of Burlington Potters Guild and Hamilton Potters Guild. She loves to teach and transfer her passion and knowledge to people interested in playing with clay.
