A retrospective exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to not only look back but to examine the path that an artist has taken to develop their outlook on life.  The path that an artist takes is almost never direct but can wander off in many directions as new idea surface, but over time it may be revealed that there is an underlying impetus that is driving the work. It is often this impetus that the artist is searching for, that is the driving force behind the act of creation. Helen Sovereign has worked in our community for decades moving from what at the time would have been thought of as a craft to an artist who embraces sculpture and moved into installation and its partner performance.  This exhibition is an opportunity to look at a small but telling selection of work that has captivated our community, setting an example for those who wish to create.

The artist gratefully acknowledges the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
