Join artist and filmmaker Mahnoor Euceph and curator Hibah Mian for an online conversation exploring contemporary art, cultural memory, and the evolving relationship between historical and contemporary image-making.
Presented in conjunction with Euceph’s exhibition The Image Remembers: Chughtai Moving Portraits at the Art Gallery of Burlington (AGB), the conversation will take the exhibition as a point of departure to explore Euceph’s artistic practice and the ideas behind her moving-image works inspired by the paintings of celebrated South Asian artist Abdur Rahman Chughtai.
Together, Euceph and Mian will consider how contemporary artists revisit and reinterpret art history, how digital media can extend and transform visual traditions, and what happens when canonical works are approached through new cultural and artistic perspectives. The conversation will also offer insight into Euceph’s broader creative practice and career, including her work across film and visual art and her ongoing engagement with questions of heritage, authorship, identity, and visual storytelling.
