Beets, turmeric, and brewed coffee may not be part of the traditional darkroom, but they are part of greening the darkroom. This workshop will introduce alternative, eco-friendly materials and methods that minimize the use of toxic chemicals commonly found in conventional darkroom practices. This workshop is perfect for photographers seeking to integrate more sustainable practices into their workflow, whether you’re an experienced darkroom enthusiast or a beginner interested in exploring film photography with a green twist. In this session, we’ll use everyday household ingredients to create light sensitive emulsions and darkroom film/paper developers that will expand your repertoire of photography’s capabilities. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of how their creative practices can align with a commitment to environmental stewardship, all while producing beautiful photographic prints.
Bring your own black & white negatives (35mm, medium-format) or digital negatives (for contact printing) or use ones supplied by the instructor. All other material will be supplied.
