Our Fragile Neighbours is a pair of interactive watercolor workshops that invite community members to learn about and creatively engage with endangered species in Ontario. Each three-hour session blends hands-on art instruction with storytelling and discussion about local biodiversity, highlighting species such as the Jefferson Salamander, native plants, and pollinators.
Participants are guided through watercolor techniques while creating their own illustrations of these fragile neighbours, fostering both artistic expression and ecological awareness. The workshops are open to all ages and skill levels, welcoming families, newcomers, and individuals who may not usually see themselves as artists. Participants are welcome to come to one or both!
Following the workshops, a community zine will be created, featuring participant artworks and stories. The zine will be produced digitally and shared online, offering a lasting reflection of the community’s creative response to nature and its preservation.
